Although only threatening to one's social life and not one's real life, acne is a very irritating problem to have. There are many different kinds of skin, varying on a person to person basis, that what might work for one person possibly doesn't work for you.

It seems as if everyone has a solution to acne and is willing to offer up their own personal remedy. Tea tree oil is a favored as a home acne remedy because it is believed kills the bacteria that causes your skin to break out, this makes it an often used and effective method of clearing up your skin. The tea tree oil is diluted and applied with a cotton ball.

Taking zinc supplements is another favored home remedy. For some people, however, zinc upsets the stomach. If this is the case for you, you need not fear as there are herbal supplements you can take instead. There are a slew of herbs that have to be consumed each day, if you cannot take zinc.

One of the simpler home remedies is taking an ice cube and rubbing it on the areas affected by acne as soon as you get up in the morning. Another simple treatment is taking baking soda and mixing it with water to get rid of the acne. Some other treatments that have been reported to be successful in treating acne are goats milk, honey, and tarmac powder.

If you have an extra five dollars and don't mind using over the counter medication, you can get one of the many options that contain benzyl peroxide. However, benzyl peroxide has a drying effect that some people find uncomfortable.

A prescription remedy will require a visit to a dermatologist and can get quite expensive. For this reason, it might be better to hold off on a doctor's visit unless your acne is severe. Prescription solutions often come in pill form or as topical applications.
