subject: Lawn Mower Engine [print this page]

In todays times it is very costly to repair a Lawn Mower Engine. There is an array of different models on the market from small compact mowers to large industrial mowers and even those that are state of the art mowers. Not every lawn mower engine can be repaired at home as some like the robot mower is computerized. But one can repair the less complicated machines easily.

Here are just a few simple steps to help you repair your machine. The first thing you need to do before you start is to remove the spark plugs as this will avoid the machine starting while you are working on it as you could lose a finger or two.

Check the spark plug to make sure it is still in good working order if not then you need to replace the spark plug. However spark plugs have been known to melt the surrounding metal down if they are malfunctioning.

If this is the case then you will have to remove the flywheel which is rather tricky as the nut that hold the flywheel is rather tight and needs to be removed with a wrench.

The next thing to look at is the carburetor which is usually almost always the cause of a problem and the carburetor should always be checked and cleaned regularly as this will avoid major problems.

The problem with a carburetor especially if the lawn mower has been standing for a while and the machine is petrol driven there will be a residue of gunk and all one needs to do is take the parts out and clean them with petrol and replace them. Your fuel line also needs to be checked if you have trouble starting the machine. Once you have checked all these parts and still unable to find a problem then you need to take the lawn mower engine in to be serviced.
