subject: What is a Decent Lighter? [print this page]

I've gone through a huge number of lightersI've gone through a huge number of lighters. That's not because I smoke, but simply because when I take them camping they seem to break. As per usual, anything cheap that you purchase today is junk, which is where the saying 'What you get is what you pay for' is derived from! I used to purchase a box of cheap lighters for about 15 dollars, which seemed good to me. Some days when camping you could go through one or two, and if you left it outdoors overnight then you may as well bin the thing. The problem with so many lighters today is that they are simply not durable to any rough environment. When you consider the huge role that they play, it's important to elevate your standards! Without a lighter you can't cook anything, or have a fire which in most cases can be very dangerous! A decent lighter then, is something that can be dropped in the dirt, stood on, rained on and refilled, all whilst still performing flawlessly. Whilst that might seem like an unlikely proposal, there are a huge number of lighters on the market which do just that. Some are enclosed in steel cases, and can easily take a car driving over them. My advice to anyone that goes camping regularly is to ensure that the lighter that they are carrying is of high quality. They become an item which you can't do without, but once you have a good one it will last a life time. By buying one that can be refilled too, you save a lot of money in the long run from only paying for the gas instead of a whole new lighter each time you run out of fuel! If you want to read about a Candle Lighter or Waterproof Lighters then feel free to do so.
