The reasons for quitting smoking are numerous, but the main reason you should stop smoking is that the habit is very dangerous for your health and that of those around you. So you can see how serious the word dangerous is when it comes to smoking.

The World Health Organisation forecast that in the year 2030 there will be at least 10 million deaths throughtout the world from smoking related ilnesses. If that happens smoking will be the biggest cause of death and all of them uneccessary if not for cigarettes. Makes you think doesn't it?

The amount of women smokers are growing and that's quite worrying. Maybe it's because women have more income and more freedom to do as they wish, or they lead more stressful lives and feel the need for nicotine. Dying early is a huge price to pay for them.

Specifically, a kind of cancer that will kill this huge number of people in the coming years is lung cancer. Lung cancer is only one of the many types of cancers that can be developed by smokers over time. This is highly possible due to the fact that smokers inhale great amounts of toxins in every single puff of cigarette smoke. These toxic and poisonous chemical constituents of cigar/cigarette smoke enter the blood stream by way of inhalation. Upon getting into the blood stream, chemical compounds such as nicotine reach the human brain and destroys many chemical messengers consequently altering various chemical reactions in the body such as providing the smoker kinds of sensation such as alertness, sharpness of memory and arousal.

Smoking also affects everybody around you, like members of your family, friends and workmates - even complete strangers who are in the same room as you. They inhale second hand smoke from your burning cigarette and that puts their health at risk. Secondhand smoke is a serious danger and especially to expectant mothers.

If a pregnant woman is a smoker the baby that she is carrying could be born with neurological dysfunctions and other tobacco related abnormalities.

Expectant mothers who smoke risk their babies being underweight and more likely to die of cot deaths than the babies of non smokers. These babies have more chance of developing allergies and life threatening respiratory diseases. Very good reasons not to smoke in front of pregnant women or near babies and young children.

Unfortunately when we start smoking cigarettes most of us don't realise just how dangerous they are to our own health and that of those around us. When we do realise we are addicted to nicotine and it's very difficult to break free from that addiction and help ourselves by quitting smoking.About the Author:
