subject: 4 Personality Traits That Will Kill An Online Business - How To Avoid Them [print this page]

So many people are online today surfing, learning, or just connecting with friends and relatives. While each one us has their own reasons why they are on the Internet, one thing remains certain: We are all part of the biggest market there ever was.

Many entrepreneurs are aware of the immense potential presented by this medium, and they are certainly making sure it works in their favor. We all want to earn money online and be prosperous, but why is it that the online business concepts come naturally to some and not so to others? Throughout my Internet business life and dealing with so many home business owners, I have noticed a pattern. Most of the people who fail at making money online invariably share one or more of 4 particular personality traits.

For the remainder of this article, I would like to focus on those 4 traits, what they are, their impact on your business, and how you can avoid them.

1. The procrastinator: We are all guilty of some level of procrastination in our lifetime. While this is permissible in some businesses, it is a killer when it comes to home-based businesses. Most of the business owners do not have to report and are not accountable to anybody expect themselves. This could be tricky because home businesses require a lot of attention and a can-do attitude to go thru the lists of tasks on a timely and efficient manner.

2. The perfectionist: There are so many things to do and a perfectionist will ultimately stop the progress of a business in his attempt to achieve excellence. Don't get me wrong, it is always good to have great aspirations, but let us not also forget that this is a business where the definition of perfection is "Have happy and satisfied customers".

3. The do-it-all. There are many tasks with every project that you will take on as part of your home business. There are things that you know and you can do on your own. For things that you do not know, it makes far more business sense to delegate a task to a friend or family member or outsource it for a small fee.

4. The hermit: Even though these businesses are home based, online businesses thrive when their owners reach out and use technology to increase their visibility. Do not wait for customers to come to you, reach out to them and be proactive in anticipating their needs.

There are many hurdles to a profitable Internet business. But based on my own experience the 4 I mentioned above rank higher in terms of the risk they present and the negative impact they generate, so keep an eye on them and make sure you avoid them at all cost.
