subject: Checklist For Packers And Movers Md [print this page]

It certainly is possible to move yourself simply by loading everything on top each other into what moving boxes and bags you have, then carrying them extra-carefully and driving very slowly! However, it isnt much fun and certainly doesn't offer guarantees. The first thing you'll need to do is gather your moving supplies. Here is a checklist: moving boxes, wardrobe boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, edge protectors, moving blankets.

You're probably familiar with using packing paper and bubble wrap as protection for fragile items. However, larger pieces of furniture often go unprotected, as they can't be covered with a moving box. Edge protectors are one of the most cost effective ways to protect either corners or edges of larger furniture items that could be damaged during a move. Moving blankets will protect the entire surface of an item (for things that wont fit in moving boxes), but are more expensive.

We have a listed a number of things for you to consider when planning local move in USA, keep the following tips in mind for particular items as you put them into your moving boxes:

Look out for breakables, but also check for spillables and items that may puncture other things in the moving box

Pack similar items together where possible. It can take a little more time at the other end, but the risk of damage is much less.

Packing supplies and moving supplies like label-able plastic bags are invaluable on moving day. Use them to keep small hardware items with their associated pieces - curtain rings with curtains, mirror bolts with the mirror, etc.

Electronic Equipment: Wrap theses items heavily in bubble wrap and place in box (ideally in the original boxes). Place bubble wrap at bottom and sides to prevent movement.

Put some sort of cushioning in the bottom of boxes - crushed paper is ideal, and can be obtained from moving supplies companies. For a cheaper alternative, you can use your own sheets and blankets - however this does make a little more work at the other end.

Use colored packing paper to draw attention to very small things - they can otherwise be mistaken for scrunched up, used packing paper. If a colored alternative isn't available, use a highlighter or permanent marker to draw attention to them.

In addition to using edge protectors on large items that cannot go in moving boxes, you can use them on smaller items within the moving boxes to ensure they dont damage other items within the box.
