Parking lots are dangerous places to venture about in after hours. If the lot is poorly lit and there arent many people around, youve got to be ready to protect yourself from attack and robbery at all times. Protect yourself with my tips below. Realize that potential predators can look like anyone. They dont have to necessarily fit into your mental schema of a dangerous person. Some might look professional and if the person is particularly skilled, they will try to befriend you before making their attack. When walking through a lot, always be aware of your surroundings, but look straight ahead as you are walking towards your car. Dont appear fearful or hesitant. Always look like you know exactly where you are going. Dont talk on your cell phone or dig through your pockets or purse as you are walking through a parking lot. It will make you seem more vulnerable and an easy target because you appear distracted. If you feel as though someone is watching you intently and it makes you uncomfortable, turn back to the entrance you came from and ask for a security escort. Dont park your car in a shaded, deserted area far from the entrance of the building. Make sure to have your car keys ready and in your hands before leaving the store and entering the parking lot. Do not make conversation with strangers. If someone threatens you with a weapon like a paint ball gun or a knife, throw your belongings behind them. It will distract the robber and you can run in the opposite direction as they go for your belongings. About the Author:
