One of the south's favorite foods is BBQ chicken, but that popularity is also something that stretches the expanse of the whole country. People from all walks of life enjoy a good barbecued chicken breast or thigh, whether cooked in their own back yard or made by a professional in a restaurant.

The taste of BBQ chicken can range anywhere from the sweet to the tangy, depending on the spices used and the way it is cooked. The type of sauce that is used varies from area to area, and every cook has their own unique variation of it. the area you were raised in will likely dictate the style you like best.

The south east United States is best known for its tangy sauces, thanks to the vinegar used in them. Tomato-based sauces are popular in the west. Each region has its own style, and if you have traveled outside of your state then you likely have tasted variations of the standard BBQ.

Cooking your own chicken is best done on a BBQ grill. While the cooking method does not dictate the exact taste of the chicken, it does play a big part. Whether charcoal or propane, there is a big difference in taste at the end of the endeavor, and this should be taken into consideration when choosing how to cook your BBQ chicken.

If you are looking at recipes, most will recommend the cooking method you use, whether on a gas, propane, or charcoal grill, or even in the oven. As with any other chicken recipes, the meat should be well cooked as to avoid any possible parasites or bacteria dormant inside of the chicken. This is easier to control in an oven, but often grilling will result in a more juicy and delicious final product.

Several dining establishments also offer BBQ chicken. Some are dedicated to BBQing various types of meats, while others simply have it on the menu. As with most types of food, you are likely to get the best results from a mom and pop restaurant that specializes in barbecuing pork, chicken, and beef -- but sometimes doing that just isn't possible, depending on the area you live in. Finding a local place that serves the best BBQ in town is often as easy as asking a few locals about their preferences and where they think you should go. This may seem like a hassle because you can make it at home on your own, but sometimes a chef's touch really makes all of the difference.
