subject: The Most Widely Used Biometric Security Systems [print this page]

There are many biometric types that can be used. The most widely used biometric security system is fingerprint technology. Ink for fingerprints has been used for centuries, and fingerprints are digitized in the digital age. Modern electronic systems filter the shape of a curve (loop), snares (arch), and the circle (whorl) of all types of conventional fingerprints into a numerical code. Fingerprint parameter is more commonly used because it is easy and cheap.

Fingerprint technology is considered as one of biometric products for applications in the enterprise network system. A technology company said that the majority of calls to the service desk (help desk) was to ask for help because they forgot their passwords.

This system is also widely used to control access and to distinguish the identity in many offices, factories, schools, hospitals, nuclear power centers, and government buildings with high security system. This product can also be used as the present system which can prevent such fraud in the card system.

Another well-known biometrics is hand geometry. Unlike fingerprint scanning, this system is not stigmatized by a security or intelligence agency that has legal consequences. This system involves scanning the shape, size, and other characters (such as finger size) from the partial or entire hands.

Another system is scanning the eye, known from spy stories. Fibers, grooves, and spots on eye iris (colored part of the eye) are scanned by using a video camera that can provide information to identify someone. This system has been tried by a number of banks in the UK, Japan, and America. With this technology, you no longer need the card or PIN to access an account. American Airlines also have tried this system at two airports for customers to obtain the flight card.
