It is generally agreed that everything left unattended will tend towards disorder; your lawn is not an exception. If you take your time to make sure that your lawn is properly cared for, then you can be sure that it will last for a very long time in a spotless condition. However, in life there are times when you may be forced to leave your lawn unattended for some time and then come back to find that your lawn is in a very bad shape. Maybe you have just been too busy the past month preparing for your wedding, you have been ill and are now fit, or you had just fallen into middle life crisis where you wondered why you have to struggle so much about things of little importance. This article seeks to bring out 3 tips that can help you repair it even when it is in the worst of shapes.

Aerating

Aerating refers to the repair process which deals with increasing the amount of air in the soil. If it has been left unattended for quite a while, you will come to realize that the soil is hard and hence making it hard for fertilizer to penetrate to the roots of the lawn. You can choose to use a machine or your hand to break up the soil so as to achieve certain level soil smoothness.

Thatching

This refers to the process of removing excessive grass clippings from your lovely compound. Apart from ensuring that water trickles down to the root system, it also avoids the build up of dead grass which usually forms the perfect hiding place for some insects which can prove to be dangerous to you. You can choose to use the power rakes or you can even choose to do it with the manual thatching rakes.

Over Seeding

If it happened that a lot of grass died during the time when the lawn was neglected, there will be a need of sowing plenty of seeds. This process is referred to as over seeding. You might need to do this a couple of times to ensure that the whole place will be filled properly once the seeds start germinating. Normally, it takes around 6 weeks for the seed to germinate, meaning that you will have to be patient during the whole process.

One thing that you will need to understand when repairing your lawn is that patience and consistency is the key to a good lawn. They say that when the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, then the water bill is higher on that side too. You have to put in effort to enjoy the lawn that you have always desired.
