Most community colleges offer paramedic classes. Go to a local community college and speak with a paramedic instructor and find out exactly what it takes to do the job. It will give you a better idea of what being a paramedic requires of you and whether or not its the right thing for you. EMT Basic Training

Emergency Medical Technician training is the most basic training you have to go through to become a paramedic. It entails about 120 to 150 hours of hands on training. Youll learn how to respond to injured patients, assess medical condition on the spot and provide basic medical aid. Its recommended that you get a year of field experience as an EMT before starting paramedic training. Paramedic Training

Actual paramedic training involves anywhere between 1,200 and 1,800 hours of hands-on training. You learn how to give injections and medication, administer IV injections, treat gunshot wounds and fractures, and assist with emergency births, among other things. Youll also have to take some in-depth anatomy and physiology classes and will learn how to work some complex pieces of medical machinery. You can get certification using EMS software. Depending on the state, paramedics are required to pass the National Registry of Emergency Technicians exam or the state exam. You must renew your certification every two years, which means updating your education regularly even as you work full time. Life as Paramedic
