subject: Commercial Steam Cleaners [print this page]

Commercial steam cleaners are used every day to clean the carpets and tile or grout in homes, businesses and restaurants everywhere. These commercial steam cleaners reach higher temperatures and offer more suction than other cleaners available to the public.

Commercial steam cleaners normally offer pressure regulators that those cleaners for home use do not come equipped with. This allows a professional to control how much steam is able to come out of the cleaner at a time. These generally offer removable commercial hoses of longer lengths, water valves that are used to differentiate between hot and cold water use, pressure gauges and nozzles. Also included on many commercial steam cleaners are triangular brushes for use in corners, floor brushes, detail brushes and even squeegee for window use. Commercial steam cleaners are made so that they are easy to use, but are much heavier and bulkier than those available to the public. The public versions of commercial steam cleaners are smaller, lighter and not as effective as their commercial counterparts. This is why there are still people who will not use a home steam cleaner and will hire professionals to clean their carpets.

One point to remember about commercial steam cleaners is that their reservoirs are larger and offer longer working times than those available to the public. Publicly sold machines run wet meaning that the floor stays wet longer. This is due to the fact that when using a steam cleaner, the water sits in a reservoir where it cools while waiting to be used by the boiler tank. When the boiler tank runs low on water, it uses water from the reservoir, which is now cold. Each time it does this cycle, the pressure on the machine goes down. Commercial steam cleaners have larger reservoirs and are able to hold more hot water to be turned into steam. Therefore the steam continues for longer periods, the reservoir does not need to be called upon to work as often and the boiler tank stays fuller longer. This allows the hot steam to penetrate the carpet and clean quickly, and dry faster. Hot water will evaporate and dry faster than cold water due to the difference in temperatures between the water and the ambient temperature. Therefore not only do commercial steam cleaners work faster and dry faster, but they offer you less chances to lower the pressure and cause cold water to be used.

The commercial steam cleaners are not much different than publicly sold cleaners when used on windows, tile or grout. These hard surfaces are not porous, and therefore the wetness of the application does not hold much weight. For the most part, commercial steam cleaners are more expensive, but this is to cover the cost of better materials that will last longer, stronger suction, professional hoses and components that consumers only wish they could get their hands on. The elevated cost is a drop in the bucket compared to the actual cleaning time, efficiency and practicality of having a professional commercial steam cleaner.
