When people come to me with stress, a question I often feel they could ask is, What are the consequences of stress and what can happen as a result of it?

Well, stress is all about the sense of pressure we feel when we resist or fight against something happening in our lives or we work with too much intensity and struggle for too long.

When we resist things or we work with too much intensity and struggle we can begin to view things as problems, and when we view things as problems were actually focusing on what we dont want. Now, theres an interesting psychological principle here which states that you get more of what you focus on. So stress therefore produces a vicious circle because the more we focus on a problem the bigger it begins to appear to us and the bigger it begins to appear to us the more stress we feel.

Also, feeling stressed about something will not of itself make that situation better. It will simply produce more stress. So this adds further fuel to the fire of this vicious circle, which over time can progressively begin to produce things such as -

- tension

- unpleasant feelings of pressure

- things tend to get out of proportion

- We try too hard and therefore dont produce our best results

- We can have headaches

- disturbed sleep patterns

- the disturbed sleep patterns produce fatigue

- the fatigue impacts on our immune system

- which can then lead to illness

- We can experience a lack of creativity

- an undermining instability in our relationships

- we can cease to be as successful in our recreational activities

- and we can cease to enjoy them as much.
