subject: Perth Will Keep You Coming Back For More [print this page]

Perth is a lovely place located in the center of Scotland. The geographical location makes it very accessible to visitors coming from other spots of Scotland as well as from England. With Edinburgh and Glasgow international airports nearby, it can be accessed easily from anywhere.

You will find plenty to do in Perth and nearby. There is something here for everyone to enjoy. Just walking the city is a delight, there are such a large number of gardens and historical buildings to see.

Old buildings are indeed a highlight in this area. There is St Johns Kirk built in 1159 making it the oldest of the buildings in Perth. You should also pay a visit to St Ninians Cathedral. And nearby is Scone palace. Though the current building was only built in the early part of the 19th century, the site has seen 42 Scottish kings crowned.

Cultural activities are well represented here. There are art galleries and museums to see such as the Perth Museum and Art Gallery. This is not only the main museum in Perth, it is one of the oldest in the country. If you are lucky enough to be there at the right time of year, there is the Perth Festival of the Arts. Held for two weeks each year, the festival includes classical music, art, theater and opera.

If it is sports that you prefer, you have many possibilities here such as rugby, football, curling and volleyball. A horse racing course at Scone palace grounds features not just horse racing but other events also.

For families, there is the water park called Perth Leisure Pool. Here you will find six pools, two flumes, a wild water channel and whirlpools. You will also find a shallow pool for the small children. An outdoor play park and picnic area are great for summer fun.

There are other opportunities for unique visits including whiskey distilleries. There is a glass factory where visitors can see how glass blowing is done. And a winery specializing in fruit wines where you can take a tour and taste the merchandise.

When you are done with the more active part of your day, Perth is home to a wide variety of restaurants with cuisine from all over the globe. In the evening, stop by one of the pubs to experience real Scottish whiskey in a setting that has been serving them for years.

Visiting Perth is an opportunity to visit a part of history with all the modern conveniences. The charm of the place and the ease of getting there will make you want to come back again and again.
