Providing your dog vitamin and mineral supplements is vital to its health. A dog that whose meals are filled with supplements will have a healthy life and your dog's immunity will not be compromised in any way. This simply means that the dog's immunity will be very strong.

As a dog owner, it is pertinent that you know that vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble vitamins and others are the water-soluble vitamins. Vitamins like cyanocobalamin, thiamine and pyridoxine and are important for the proper functioning of the nervous system. A lack of vitamin A can result in night blindness and lesions on the skin. A lack of vitamin D in dogs can lead to the softening and weakening of the bones.

Also ensure you do not give your dog too much vitamins as this can lead to vitamins intoxicity. A good source of dog vitamin A is cod liver oil and it is widely acknowledged as a quality feed for dogs.

Not all dogs need vitamin or mineral supplements to have a healthy life if they have a diet rich in vegetables but it does help. However, they do become necessary if you notice any unhealthy symptoms in your dogs. It is recommended you seek the advise of a veterinarian doctor before proceeding.

Note that frozen fish is deficient of vitamin B1 and therefore has to be provided to the dog in the form of supplements. It is unwise to overwhelm your dog with too much supplements. Again, consult your veterinarian doctor in order not to overdose your dog.

Minerals like calcium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, iron and so on should be given a lot of emphasis in addition to sodium and potassium. Zinc gives your dog very good skin, potassium is good for muscle health while calcium with phosphorus are good for your dog's bone health.

If you feed your dog a mixture of meat and vegetables, it is necessary that you reduce the amount of supplements given as vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals.
