Basel is Switzerlands second largest city and has a tradition of scholarship and art since the Renaissance. As evidence of this commitment, the city has more than 24 museums for a population of 200,000 residents. Basel lies on the Swiss border with both France and Germany and is influenced by both these cultures.

Not a traditional Swiss ski town, Basel is filled with options for vacationers. Take in the Rhine as you cross the Mittlere Brucke (Middle Bridge) which was financed by the sale of church treasures in 1125. It is one of the oldest Rhine crossings. Tinguley Fountain features amusing machine sculptures and is considered a symbol of the towns identity.

Venture on foot through Basel's old town, as not to miss the vast, stunning detail of 15th century's architectural movement as their inter-twined with modern works of international proportion. The most imposing, (Spalentor) or Spalen Gate, is the most out of the three surviving city gates to be imposed upon, that date back to the early--00's

Basel also provides official tour of the city and during Christmas the city will enthrall you with lights, trees, angels and fables of old Basel traditions.

The Roman Town of August Raurica will introduce you to the formerly bustling Roman town through imposing ruins and museum treasures.

It is easy to combine shopping with sightseeing in Basel. Youll find luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Rolex. Shop for shoes, fashion, books and other specialties in small boutiques, antique shops and chic department stores.

If you like night life, Basel is a place for you. You could find all things ranging from cozy bars to wild parties and clubs.
