subject: The Versatile Canon Eos Rebel Xs Digital Slr Camera Review [print this page]

The canon eos rebel xs digital slr camera review puts it as a budget model but still has quite a few features of the Rebel XSi. The camera has a 2.5 inch LCD color screen as its interface and is the size is quite sufficient for regular use. The screen does not go off automatically when you are using the viewfinder as it lacks the infrared sensor for proximity.

The camera comes in a kit form and among other things it has a sophisticated 18-55mm lens with Image Stabilization system which is built into the lens's barrel. The system comprises of a computer chip that processes a moving optical element and a sensor for motion. As the name suggests Image Stabilization (IS) system is geared to give you blur-free images even when you are shooting at slower shutter speeds.

Presence of the IS system in the lens and not in the body of the camera makes the model less versatile as you will need to have the same technology in every lens that you might buy in future. The plus side is that this technology seems to work much better when it is loaded into the lens.

The image sensor of the Rebel XS is an impressive 10.1 megapixels equipped with a seven point Auto Focus (AF) sensor. If operation is switched to the AF mode the camera will adjust automatically to a subject which is closest to the camera. You also have the option of setting the AF system in various modes and in each mode you can have priority settings for speed of the shutter and aperture.

Powering the camera is an E5 Lithium Ion battery whose single charge can give you a shoot of 500 photos. You can rig the camera with a wired remote control as it lacks a remote sensor in the front. Giving good portability the camera weighs less than half a kilo and its width measures five inches and height a mere 3.8 inches.

The Rebel XS is equipped with a new DIGIC III processor and also has a Self Cleaning system. The sensor for cleaning is able to shake the dust off the filter which then gets caught to an adhesive material at the base. This procedure is done every time during powering up and shutting down the camera and you can also start it manually.

If we consider the Cannon EOS Rebel XS digital SLR camera from an overall perspective it has many salient features which makes it possible for taking photos of high speed action. From sports to wildlife coverage this camera can be your faithful companion for taking shots is JPEG. It only falls short in RAW mode as the speed seems to reduce quite a bit.
