Kent area in England has a prime town called Folkestone. It is situated in Shepway District of Kent. It is a commercial town where the fishing industry has emerged to the top in the last couple of years and it is a very attractive place to visit.

It is a small yet very beautiful town with Georgain Stone columns and ancient architecture. There are beautiful gardens where outdoor concerts are held. The town is just 30 minutes from the famous Canterbury of The Canterbury Tales. The town is mainly like a resort where most of the time visitors to other places of England stop by as they have to pass through this town. The town has some stunning views.

It got its name from Stone of Folca, where Folca is a term used for an old English man. Regarding the name of the town, people mostly get its name spelled wrong. In the past, the spelling of the town created confusion among people and Folkestone, the name was fixed.

Being a major fishing town, it has a harbour area which had witnessed the fury of heavy storms in the past. There are many plans being made to develop the harbour area. Plans are being discussed on making the harbour railway and station into a museum for potential visitors.

Tourists can enjoy ferry rides passing through the Dover strait while visiting France from U. K. The Battle of Britain Museum is another tourist spot where exhibits and airplanes related to the London and South East war can be found.

The town has sacrificed many of its soldiers in wars. In Folkestone, there are two major memorials build up in bronze. There is a memorial in remembrance of the soldiers who laid their lives. It is located at the start of the Road of Remembrance. Then there is a memorial with a beautifully sculpted bronze statue of William Harvey.

Folkestone is an English town and so it does not lack churches here. The Saint Mary and St. Eanswythe Church is a eye-catching Church with some beautiful memorials. The gardens surrounding the Church makes it look even more attractive.

H. G. Wells is one of the renowned poets of the world. He spent some time of his life in the Spade House of Folkestone. Many of his well-known works were written by him in this town.

You can taste the flavour of local history in the museum at Grace hill. Here you can take a look at some exhibits and items of archaeological interest. Here you can enjoy a slice of local life in the past.
