subject: 5 Printer Ink Tips To Save You Money [print this page]

No matter if we're in the middle of a recession or enjoying boom times, everyone is always looking for different ways to save money. If you do a lot of printing on an inkjet printer you may be spending money unnecessarily. Here are five ways that you can save money on your printer ink.

1. Buy Less Expensive Printer Ink Cartridges

This probably sounds like a no-brainer, but you have a lot of choices when it comes to replacing an ink cartridge in your ink jet printer. You can buy a brand new ink cartridge from the original manufacturer, purchase a remanufactured original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cartridge, get a compatible cartridge from another company, or purchase an ink refill kit.

Of these options the least expensive ways to go are with refill kits or compatible cartridges. The print quality with either of these choices is good and you will get good value for your money.

2. Don't Print Photographs on Your Ink Jet Printer

You've probably seen a lot of ads that show you how wonderful photos look that are printed on your very own printer. Don't be fooled. The ink's expensive, the photo paper is expensive, and you can probably get better quality at a lower cost at your local drug store, Costco, Walmart, or a similar store.

3. Purchase Your Inkjet Cartridges Online

There are a lot of companies that sell ink cartridges and printer ink on the Internet. These companies also offer substantial discounts over what you would pay in a store. Companies that sell printers ink will also deliver your cartridges and ink right to your front door. So, not only will you save money on your purchase you will also save money on gas as well as wear and tear on your car. So the next time you're going to buy printer ink, why not look online first?

4. Check the Price of Replacement Cartridges Before You Buy Your Printer

Ounce for ounce, printer ink is the most expensive liquid in the world. It's often more expensive than gold. So before you buy your next printer, check out the price of ink cartridge replacements. You'll want to be especially careful if you're considering a very low cost inkjet printer. That's because the printer manufacturer usually charges a very high price for their replacement cartridges.

5. Buy a Printer With Separate Ink Tanks for Each Color

You can buy an inkjet printer that has either two cartridges (one for black and one for color), or one that has tanks for individual colors. You'll save quite a bit of money if you buy a printer that uses tanks for separate colors. That's because if you have a two'tank printer, once you've used one color up you have to replace the entire cartridge. And, for some reason, you always seem to use one color more than the others.

Get a multi-tank model and you will save a lot of money in the long run.
