subject: Baltimore Ravens Tickets - Oher Ignores Film, Prepares For Week 11 [print this page]

What a week it's been for Michael OherWhat a week it's been for Michael Oher. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive lineman is gearing up for the Ravens' Week 11 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, where he and fellow offensive tackle Jared Gaither will be involved in a tough matchup on the field against Colts superstars Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. While this is a full-time job in itself, Sunday's game isn't all he's dealing with this month.

Oher is also the inspiration for the current Sandra Bullock/Tim McGraw football film The Blind Side, which hit theaters Friday, Nov. 20 - just two days before the Ravens/Colts game. The Blind Side is a documentary-style film outlining Oher's awe-inspiring life story, following his transformation from a homeless teenager to a straight-A student and NFL player. The Blind Side is a deeply emotional film that puts Oher's life in the spotlight like few other football players' have, but the offensive tackle is trying not to take notice of the big ordeal.

"Michael is playing football. He is not going to movie premieres," his adoptive father Sean Tuohy said in the wake of the Blind Side excitement. "He is not going anywhere. And we respect that and we hope other people would respect that."

Instead of getting caught up in the Hollywood limelight, Oher is concentrating on what's pulled him through thus far: football.

Oher's captivating story started from the depths of inner city Memphis, where he was born to a crack-addicted mother. Growing up on the streets, Oher eventually wandered into the life of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, a wealthy white couple who adopted the homeless teenager. Slowly transforming his life, Oher found comfort in the sport of football, dedicating his energies to the sport while playing on his high school team, even becoming a hot commodity by his senior year. The oversized teen next carved out a spectacular football career while attending college at Ole Miss, and in 2009 he was drafted as a first-round pick (23rd overall) to the NFL's Baltimore Ravens, where he currently starts at offensive tackle.

While his story is truly an inspiration, it's not close to being over yet. Michael Oher has been an instrumental piece of the Ravens' offensive line this year, and he's got his work cut out for him on Sunday, Nov. 22, as the rest of the world tunes into his life story as portrayed by actor Quinton Aaron. Oher has gone up against tough defensive ends this season (see: Jared Allen), but his skill will be put to the test in Week 11 as he tries to handle the dynamic duo of Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis during the Ravens' much-anticipated matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

There's no doubt that Michael Oher has been selling out Baltimore Ravens tickets online this season, but there's still plenty of play left in 2009. The Ravens are currently third in the AFC North with a 5-4 record, and the team's Week 11 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts will prove one of the most challenging games of the season. Even though he's not promoting The Blind Side as it comes into fruition, Michael Oher will surely have a few more fans on the sidelines during Week 11 of the NFL's regular season as he tackles the Indianapolis Colts on the football field.
