subject: Hiring A Technician For Computer Services And Maintenance [print this page]

You certainly ignore those ads from computer services centers. Who needs their services anyways? You have thousands of other things to worry about. You are busy writing that piece, while yelling at your youngest one to keep the jam bottle properly. And suddenly, you feel like having a jam sandwich yourself. You get up, fix yourself a sandwich, get back to the paragraph you were trying to close and careful though you are, you still manage to drop micro crumbs on the keyboard. As you try to wiggle out the tiny crumbs, you notice tiny pieces of potato chips there too. And for sure you remember the time your teenager was working on your computer with a bag of chips.

So do you need computer services technician even if all the drives are working properly, if sticking a pencil between cables keeps them in place and only a couple of keys on your keyboard seem to be in need of help? Yes, you should. The computer that is at home needs the same care and maintenance that computers in offices do. But there certainly are things that you can do to keep your computer running in good condition.

You should have a good anti virus installed and protect your computer with a good firewall. Installing more than one antivirus on your computer makes your computer unstable. Installing many anti-viruses together in one computer doesn't help you fight viruses better. Keep updating the programs that need updating. Try to keep some space free in the drives so that they can function properly. Delete the programs that you dont need and the temporary files that you don't need. Keep your recycle bin empty. After work, shut your computer down properly by following standard commands from the start up menu. Shutting it down directly with the power switch may cause your system to crash.

As almost all the technicians from computer services centers will vouch for, 70 % of the time when your computer or monitor or connected printer doesn't work, it is because of faulty cables and switches. Do not fiddle with the cables. Keep all the cables connected to your computer safely out of general reach. Ensure that the wiring is safe. In case if you ever see smoke or traces of smoke coming out of any part of wiring, cables or computer, do not touch anything. Try to unplug the cables from the main connection. If you are unable to do it and things seem to be getting out of hand, try switching off the main switch of your home and call for help after ensuring that kids and pets are away safe, far from the danger zone.

So your computer does need a good professional upkeep and maintenance schedule. And how do you find yourself a good computer technician? Well, you could look in yellow pages or search for ads in local newspapers. Your local hardware and software retailer can also give you pointers on good computer services, repairs and maintenance companies that will ensure that your computer at home gets all the professional attention it needs.
