subject: Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Another Smash Hit? [print this page]

Ever since the first move of the popular Twilight saga was released in 2008, the hype over the franchise was very high. The next years release of the sequel, New Moon, achieved even bigger success and made fans eagerly await the third chapter, Eclipse. With the Twilight Saga: Eclipse DVD release coming up, expectations are high. Producers are hoping that it will continue the trend New Moon set up, outselling Twilight with 4 million copies sold in first two days. Although the standards are set pretty high, from what we have seen, Eclipse has what it takes to be the best seller in the franchise. Let's learn a bit about these lovely vampires and werewolves:

The immense success that Twilight franchise enjoys came as a complete surprise. Stephenie Meyer never wrote anything before Twilight. Now she is one of the most successful writers in history, trumping even such names as J. K. Rowling on the way, who is the only better selling author in the decade. She is the only author in history who managed to have 4 of her books hold first 4 places on USA Today bestseller list in 2008. Then she did it again in 2009.

While retaining the original love triangle story between Bella, Edward and Jacob, Eclipse will also focus on action elements. The first two movies were primarily a love story and some fans complained that they appeal more to the female auditorium. In an effort to rectify this, Eclipse director David Slade included more action scenes, including the epic vampire vs. Werewolf battle.

According to Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in all three movies, Eclipse is an action movie for guys. The big fight scene where Victoria's newborn army fights against the Cullen coven and Jacob's werewolf pack is one of the main selling points of the movie.

The story follows Bella's struggle to preserve her relations with both Edward and Jacob. Considering how they feel about her, this can prove to be not the easiest task. She also has to protect herself against Victoria, who is looking for revenge for the death of her lover in Twilight.

"Bring back Rachel" was the most seen message on Twitter on July 29th 2009. This was the day when Summit Entertainment announced that they are replacing her with Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria in Eclipse. They even made her a tribute video on You tube. Rachel stated that she was overwhelmed by the fans' support. However, even though she did a good job interpreting Victoria in the first two movies, we have to be fair and say that Bryce Dallas Howard managed the role quite well in Eclipse, playing a villain.

As the Twilight Saga: Eclipse DVD Release hits the video stores, the hunt for the director of the fourth sequel continues. There are plenty of rumors flying around, but for now Bill Condon appears to be the closest to the job.

The insiders are saying that the studio wants someone with credibility to direct Breaking Dawn, the final sequel to the Twilight Saga, for which they obtained rights from Stephenie Meyer. Condon, who is an Academy Award winner is just the man for the job. Hopefully, with his experience in handling large and expensive productions, he will be able to make the final chapter a movie to be remembered by a broader audience than the current one.
