Topical solutions like Duofilm or Occlusal, made from salicylic and/or lactic acids, are used applied to the wart several times a day. First moist the wart with water for ten minutes to soften it, and follow by paring the wart down so that the remedy will be better absorbed. Apply the acid with care, avoiding surrounding skin, which can quickly become red. Acid-containing plasterssuch as TransPlantar or Trans-VerSal could be more user friendly, as you use them every night and leave them on for 20 hours.

{Oral cimetidine (Tagamet), has been proven to kill viruses that cause warts and also boost the immune system.

Dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) a powerful chemical which can be painted on warts.

Big, tough warts can be treated with the cancer treating medication bleomycin (Blenoxane). This can be painful, however is also sometimes quite effective.

Tretinoin (Retin-A) gel, applied on the affected, is often applied to flat warts . A different topical medication, fluorouracil (Efudex, Fluoroplex) lotion, can also be used for flat warts on face.

Imiquimod (Aldara) cream is an immune-response modifiercommonly used for external genital warts. It is placed on the warts at bedtime three times a week, and cleaned off 5 to ten hours later, on arising. It can be used for 16 weeks, with results in four weeks. As with topical antiviral techniques, possible side effects include local redness, flaking, inflammation, itching, and burning.

A podophyllum solution (Podocon-25, Podofin) may be applied to genital warts by a professional. Then cleaned off at home by the patient to remedies for removing warts 6 to 12 hours later. It is a strong irritant, but, it must be washed off quickly if the area treated becomes tender, inflamed, or quite itchy.

Podofilox (Condylox) is a newer remedy, like but not as powerful as podophyllum. It can be applied at home to remedies for removing warts.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is many times used in the treatment of all types of warts.
