subject: Warming Your Hearts Through Winter With Air Conditioning [print this page] Air Conditioning, something that is just designed to keep you cool in the summer when it gets a bit hot. Wrong. Air conditioning can be used to maintain the warmth in the winter months as well as cool the building in the summer and as it turns out, not a lot of people know that.
The main object of an air conditioning unit is to stabilise the temperature of the air condition within the building or car. Admittedly if we are in the car in the summer we might dip to a lower temperature to help cool our bodies down, but in an office environment the temperature remains fairly constant at around 21 degrees centigrade.
Obviously in the summer months the air conditioning units for your building will be working away tirelessly cooling air which is then fed in to the building to keep your staff cool, relaxed and happy. What you probably don't realise is that in the winter the exact reverse is happening to keep your staff comfortable, warm and healthy.
A lot of people wrongly assume that the units help to assist the spread of germs around an office. Obviously if a machine is not serviced regularly then it can start to give out contaminated air, but that is surely all the more reason to make sure that you keep your unit serviced and up to date.
Although the last thing you need over the winter months is staff freezing in the office, having your office conditioning unit set too warm could cause staff to adversely feel the cold when heading out at lunch time.
Because of this is it advisable to maintain the temperature of the office at a constant 21 degrees all season long.
Another fact that people don't often appreciate when working with air conditioning units is the need to maintain all units at the same temperature. If you have one unit that is cooling the office and the next unit 5 metres away is working to heat the building they will work against each other, causing you to waste electricity and spend more money.
If you are the office manager take control of the units, send an email out to the staff and inform them that the units are not to be tampered with. Instead inform them that if a change is needed to enlighten you via email and you will look to address it as soon as possible. This way everyone can stay, warm, healthy and happy through winter to the next summer.
