subject: Anthony Hopkins Filmography [print this page] Sir Anthony Hopkins, the legendary, extremely gifted British actor, has almost completed fifty years of movie-making, having won numerous awards including an Oscar and having been rewarded with a Knighthood. No comprehensive Anthony Hopkins filmography can leave out his credits also as a movie director, a producer, a writer, a narrator, a composer of movie music scores and his solo pianist performances. He even released a single in 1986, singing "A Distant Star" Anthony Hopkins versatility is amazing, not least as an actor.
Hopkins has played numerous famous characters in history, such as Adolph Hitler in The Bunker 1981, President Richard Nixon in Nixon 1995, lieutenant William Bligh in "The Bounty" 1984 and Doctor Frederick Treves in "The Elephant Man" 1980 to name a few. Hopkins has a well developed skill in voice mimicry, for which he is well-known and combined with his meticulous character studies, research and acute attention to detail, it is no surprise to learn he is due to take on the role of Alfred Hitchcock, with his distinctive voice in a new film entitled Alfred Hitchcock and The Making of Psycho. In 1991 when the movie Spartacus was restored (originally made in 1960) Anthony Hopkins was chosen to do the voice-over for the by then deceased legendary actor Sir Lawrence Olivier. In the 1978 movie Magic Hopkins performance as the unstable Corky Withers in the sinister romance film about a vicious ventriloquists dummy, was a triumph due to Hopkins attending lessons to become a ventriloquist and mastering the craft expertly.
Anthony Hopkins has recently been part of a wave of computer generated image movies (CGI) in first Beowulf and then The Wolfman, which have both received varying reviews, although I for one thoroughly enjoyed them both on my home cinema, with their special effects and the surround sound full on! There seems concern about whether such talented actors will be lost to the next generation with these CGI movies well if thats all they do, maybe, but Hopkins has not been so short-sighted and I doubt he will disappoint his fans with his next release which will be "The City of Your Final Destination".
However, Anthony Hopkins could afford to be complacent these days, financially and in terms of his acting achievements, which date from 1967 on screen, encompassing credits in TV films, dramas, series and documentaries, as well as all the movies an impressive filmography list which is set to grow with all the new movies he has committed to. The latest news is Hopkins is in talks about a part in the new movie "Arabian Nights" which is due to start filming this year - he has been offered a part as a villain, being no stranger to those such parts as he was voted as the top movie villain character for his portrayal of Dr Hannibal Lecter in the Oscar-winning movie "The Silence of The Lambs".
