subject: Good vs evil, television as display easel art: The Characters of The Wire Pt. 2 [print this page] Author: Kasan Groupe Author: Kasan Groupe
It is sort of hard to give a summary of the cast of The Wire since the lineup often changed to focus on different groups of people in and around Baltimore, MA, from the law enforcement officials to the man and women in politics to the drug dealers on the street and to the dock workers and newspaper men and women. I will try to summarize some of the key cast members in the epic show that makes television into art worthy of adisplay easel. Stringer Bell The second in command to the Barksdale Organization, Stringer is put in command of the organization when Avon is sent to jail and shows himself as a much different leader than Avon. Stringer takes economics classes at Baltimore community College and maintains a large personal library including a copy of Adam Smiths The Wealth of Nations, which provoked one of the most referenced lines from the show with Jimmy McNulty finally sees Stringer Bells apartment after his death and remarks: Who was I chasing? Stringer and Avon eventually find themselves at odds on how to run the organization and it would eventually be their downfall. Cedric Daniels An officer in the Baltimore police department, on the outside, Daniels is a by the books officer with nothing bad on his record. It is revealed that Daniels isnt as clean as he seems, at one point being investigated by the FBI for corruption when they see he has a couple thousand dollars more in liquid assets than any police Lieutenant should ever have. The show largely finds Daniels at odds with the police department and the politics involved with making progress and moving up in the ranks. He eventually resigns from his rank as commissioner due to the politics of the job and uses his law degree to become a lawyer.About the Author:
