subject: Teri And Sidbi To Boost Chandigarh-mohali-panchkula Engineering Cluster [print this page]

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has decided to help the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) in implementing its project-Small and Medium Enterprises Financing and Development Project, in the Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula engineering cluster.

The plan aims at paving the way for market-based development of the engineering cluster by strengthening various business development service (BDS) providers and establishing economies of scale for their production.

With the aid of the initiative undertaken by the SIDBI and TERI, small-scale engineering units in the Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula cluster can avail a wide range of advanced facilities and enhance their operational and sales performance, said Anjan Shergill, proprietor of ST Engineering, a small-sized engineering company in Chandigarh.

TERI has already conducted a mapping exercise of the Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula engineering cluster and prepared an action plan to boost the capacities of BD providers in the region.

Over 1,000 units engaged in manufacturing fasteners, steel fabrication and machining in the Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula engineering cluster will become eligible to receive financial and technical support under the TERI-SIDBI project, said a senior government official in Chandigarh.

A website providing cluster information and details of BDS providers and information on various project activities has also been launched recently. The portal is expected to serve as a platform to identify, establish and support links between the BDS consultants of the region and SME engineering enterprises.
