subject: Dopod A8 Diamond - Dopod By Htc [print this page] Dopod is a brand that might not says a lot to you, and you may even think that it is one more OEM phone manufacturer. Its actually not the case, Dopod is a Taiwanese phone maker founded in 2004 that now belongs to HTC. It is currently focused on Southeast Asian and Australian markets.
Dopod is mainly selling Windows Mobiles and Android phones but has just now brought to the market an entry- level model running on a proprietary OS, the Dopod A8 Diamond.
The A8 design is inspired by some HTC models especially the HTC Magic. Its user interface reminds us the Android OS. The A8 is built with shiny plastics and is available in black or white. The casing integrates few control bottoms: 5 on the front (3 of them are back lighted), and one on each side of the phone (volume and photo shot), the phone casing also integrates a telescopic stylus.
Even though its an entry-level phone, the Dopod A8 is supplied with a full set of features: quadband GSM/GPRS, dual SIM, Bluetooth 2.0, a 2.6 WQVGA touch screen with 240*320 pixels, an accelerometer (for the shake function to switch wallpapers, pictures and MP3s), a microSD slot for memory upgrade, Java 2.0 support, a dual camera (front and back), a FM radio with a recording mode, a game and multimedia functions (camera, video recorder, photo viewer, voice recorder, eBook).
To unlock the screen, there is a slide to unlock function. Once on the main screen, are displayed , time and date as well as 3 large icons: one for contacts, one for dialing and one that launches a new screen giving access to the other functions.
I almost forgot to talk about the price. At USD 75, the Dopod A8 is a bargain.
