Where do children learn values? Do your children even know what values are? Certainly, you as a parent should know. At least we, in civilized society, assume that people are taught values. Values you could say are the guidepost and rules that guide the lives of people who society would say are "good people". What makes a good person is a subjective thing, but there are certain earmarks that are universal, and that people would agree upon when they are Teaching Children Values. Here is a look at some things that are important to consider when you are teaching children, and molding them to become people to be proud of.
If you were to think about values, you would want to teach your children a variety of things. One of the first things that you might think about when you are Teaching Children Values, is honesty. You want your child to be honest people. When you are teaching children, you might want them to learn how to tell the truth, and you'll teach them that telling the truth is the best way to go. You don't want your kids to grow up to be liars or dishonest. A dishonest child grows up to engage in criminal activity of all sorts. This ruins the life of the child, and brings shame upon the family. So if you are teaching children, you most certainly are going to want to impress upon them to be honest people.
The next value that you as a parent might think about is kindness. When we grow older, we understand that we cannot be friends with everyone, but we can give a certain amount of human kindness. It is important for kids to understand that kindness is about caring about the well-being of others. You certainly do not want to raise children who are selfish, and mean spirited. You'd want to raise kids who are kind to their partners, who care about the suffering of the world around them, and that want to make a positive difference in life. So when you are teaching children values, you'd certainly want to put kindness on the list.
Respect is a value that all children should be taught when you are teaching children. Let's face it; we've all encountered a disrespectful, surly child. That child is unhappy and they make the people around them unhappy. Because the people in this child's life will be unhappy, the child will miss out on many beneficial relationships, and opportunities. As a parent, you have to deal with your child, but other people don't, and they won't care about your child like you do. You can't divorce yourself from your child, but other people can. So do your child a favor. When you are Teaching Children, make sure that you are teaching them how to be respectful of people, laws, and authority figures.
There are many other values that a parent can think about to pass along to their children. However, the important thing is that you are taking the time to pass values to your children. TV and books can only reinforce what you teach your kids, but it's your job to be teaching children, not everyone else.
