subject: World's Wildest Race Gets Ready For 2011 [print this page] After a successful 2010 competition, in which team Helly Hansen-Prunesco became the first team to retain the title, the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race will return in February 2011 for its ninth edition. The race will take place in one of the most pristine and unexplored terrains of Chilean Patagonia - the area around the Southern Continental Ice Field - and will again consist of a testing combination of kayaking, mountain biking, trekking and ropework.
The 2011 edition will again be a long distance challenge with the typically great obstacles set by the wild nature of Chilean Patagonia - the rough terrain and unpredictable weather. But the discovery of untouched territories, magical landscapes and the direct contact with one of the most amazing wilderness you could ever find draws competitors back to endure the hardships and reap the rewards. These unique combination of elements, difficult to find elsewhere, have made the event continue to grow in notoriety ever since its first edition.
Beyond the physical and mental challenge, the main purpose of the race 2011 is to raise awareness, among the racers its as well as its followers, of the environmental issues faced by Chilean Patagonia and to preserve its pristine wilderness. By making the course of the race change every year, the organizers aim to highlight the issues in different areas of this spectacular region, all stunning and all to be protected.
The 2011 Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race will take place next February, from Tuesday 8th to Wednesday 16th. Competitors will have to register for the event in Punta Arenas on the 5th and attend the closing cerimony on Friday 18th.
