subject: Violence as a Part of Student Culture in College: True or False? [print this page]

May it happen that students regard violence as an integral part of their college life? Well, it actually happens that some students suffer from some kind of humiliation, misunderstandings, jokes, etc. However, are some of them about violence? To comprehend the aspect of violence in college better, we make a decision to gather several different opinions from students who study or used to study in college and could observe the cases of violence if any. Nelly, 25 "My life in college is probably one of the most amazing periods of time. From the very first days, I managed to find good friends and define the priorities of my education. When I joined our girl society, I had to pass several tests. Some of them were rather funny and even a bit humiliating. However, I cannot say that some cases of violence took place. Everything was naive but still educative." Harym, 24 "I am a foreign student, and this is why my race and even my language differentiate me from the rest of students. Several young men from our course prefer to gain recognition by means of power. I was their favorite "object". In case I tried to share my discontent, they told that I understood their intentions in a wrong way. It was their type of culture. However, several bruises on my body reminded that everything should be so cruel." Edward, 24 "Violence may be of different type. If you talk about the violence that takes place in student societies, for example when new comers have to pass through tests, I think it is ok. However, in our college, there were the cases of sexual violence. And it was not a girl. A boy was raped by a group of unknown men. It was terrible. I think colleges should take more care of their students who live in campus.
