subject: What To Consider Before Buying A New TV [print this page]

Are you in the market for a new TV? If so you may be considering an HD television, but is it really worth the extra cost? Well, HD is the way all media is going so getting yourself an HDTV is definitely a good choice. You could just buy a new TV that is not in HD, but that stock is dwindling and priced cheap for a reason, not to mention you may find yourself needing a new TV again in a few short years as the technology progresses. If you can not afford a HDTV right now just hang on to your old television while you save up the money. It will be worth it in the end. Why is HDTV all the rage anyway, you might ask. A few years ago it was the future of TV and was considered to be a somewhat indulgent luxury item. That is not exactly true anymore, just take a walk through the electronics department of any big box store and you will see it packed to the gills with HD televisions. More and more movies are displaying in HD now, video games are as well, and even TV shows are starting to go all digital and all high def. So what does this mean for you? It means that without an HDTV you will soon be left behind when it comes to TV, movies and gaming. Take the television and film industry for example, they have both almost entirely moved over to HD. Films are shot in HD and so are many television shows, everyone is making the switch. Even the video game industry is producing games in HD these days. Because of this, an HDTV is practically required in order to enjoy all entertainment media. HDTV has become the new standard, it will be common in every household soon enough so why not make the switch now? After deciding to go for an HDTV you need to look at different models and types. Two popular types of HDTV are LCD and Plasma models. Plasma provides an excellent picture quality with deep, rich colors. However, Plasma TVs are more expensive than LCD TVs. That is not to say an LCD also does not feature incredible picture quality, and it comes with a lower price tag and a wider variety in sizes to boot. Whatever you settle on, it is important to choose a TV that suits your home as well as your budget.
