subject: Sleep Issues [print this page]

Should you have a problem with sleeping, I feel your pain. I have no gripe getting to sleep, my the issue here is that after I get to sleep, it's generally not a quality sleep as I have things on my mind, and I don't generally sleep for long periods of time. Even when it's the weekend and I have nothing to do that day, I'll still find myself getting up after roughly 6 hours sleep. Even worse, when I have been celebrating the night before, and had a few too many, I'll still wake early, and have to suffer the effects the following day.

I've suffered with this trouble the past year or so, I have been told it's because of stress and worry, and during my research into it, I've come across a lot of things that have recently helped me to nap just that bit better. Allowing me to fall asleep for longer, and to also have a better quality sleep, in order that I am not getting out of bed during the night with thoughts on my mind, or getting up, turning from one side to the other.

This may sound weird to some, but I've found that I have a significantly better quality sleep if I have some form of noise around me. Many individuals need total silence by which to fall into deep sleep, but I have found that if I have a low level noise which doesn't alter in volume excessively, for example a fan blowing in the room, or the TV on a low volume, or the compressor of my new beer fridge in my bedroom, that it helps me to unwind, therefore ensuring a good, deep sleep. I've also realized that I've a far better sleep if it's raining and I can hear the rain about the window. Apparently, several others also discover the rain to help them greatly when wanting to sleep, and you can actually purchase CD's and mp3s which just have the noise of rain, and thunderstorms on them.

Recently, I'm in a quest to shed weight, and because of that, I'm now doing a great deal of cardio exercises. I'm not sure whether it's a coincidence, but on the days I do the cardio, I feel as if I sleep right through the night, and also feel tired at night time, and nod off to sleep almost the moment my head hits the pillow. I don't feel tired in the daytime, so it is not anything you should worry about. I just feel tired by the end of the day, as though my body has been doing a thorough workout, and it's now time to mend itself.

I'm keen on reading, and always have a book to hand or a magazine of some sort. I find taking these to bed with me, and lying down on my stomach, with my head resting on my arm, and the book directly before me, has me dropping off to sleep within 15 minutes.

I'd like to thank you for perusing this article, and I really hope that at least one of these ideas will help you with your sleeping problems.
