subject: Fitness is More Than Exercise...But Exercise is an Integral Part of Fitness! [print this page] Becoming fit involves a lot more than just exercising when it is convenient. Everybody has episodes of "I want to get fit!" and "I want to be healthier!" True physical fitness can only be achieved if you are willing to commit wholly to your health. You can't get fit if you don't also have a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. Obviously those are topics that can be discussed some other time. If you need help putting together your fitness regime follow these hints.
Work your whole body. Anybody who tries to tell you that you only need to work on specific areas of your body is not worth listening to. To be successful you will need to put together a routine that will work your whole body and all of its systems. You will need to train in endurance, strength and cardiovascular systems. To truly get healthy you need to work on all of your muscles. If you only work on a two or three muscles at a time you will only build up those muscles and feel bigger and bulkier than you did before. While it is true that, over time, you want to build up your workouts in intensity, you don't want to do this on a daily basis. Your muscles won't ever get stronger if you up your workouts every day. It will only tear them down more quickly. This is because your muscles need time to heal and get stronger between vigorous workouts. You need to give your muscles time to heal after they have been worked on. You need to alternate your exercise routines. Start with a difficult routine one day and then use an easy routine the next day. This gives your muscles time to build themselves up while still allowing you to exercise.
Start with a simple routine and add to it over time to build something that is more complicated. Beginners are generally unable to run ten miles when they start exercising. Nobody is able to lift a hundred pounds if they haven't ever done weight lifting before. Start slowly and simply and increase your workout routine's intensity over time. If you try to do too much too soon you could end up injuring yourself. You could do major damage to your body if you don't go easy on yourself in the beginning. Physical trainers, doctors and physical therapists are all great sources of support when you need help building a fitness routine.
Fitness involves every aspect of your life. Jogging a few times a week is not all there is to getting fit. In addition to regularly working out, true fitness involves good food and healthy lifestyle choices. There are lots of ways that you can help yourself reach your goals when you decide that it is time to get healthy. Just remember: fitness is just one part of leading a healthy lifestyle!
