subject: Why Your Thoughts Make You a Good Husband [print this page] Introduction Introduction
It is easy to be a husband - you just have to get married. But to be a Good Husband takes a lot of careful attention to several areas of your married life.
Ask yourself this question: Does your wife want just any run-of-the-mill husband? Or does she want her husband (you!) to be the best husband there is? I am sure you will agree that your wife wants you to be a good, no a wonderful, husband!
But, as we said above, being a good husband takes dedication and commitment.
So let us take a closer look at one of the areas that you have to attend to in order to be a good husband (or become a better one).
Keep your Thoughts Positive!
Mike Dooley says, "Thoughts become things. Choose the good ones!"
Already in the Bible we are taught that we should take care what we think about. And it has now been scientifically proven that our thoughts determine what we become.
Why is that?
Because everything we do, and everything we say... was first a thought. Nothing that we do or say has slipped past our minds - we first think about something, then we do it or say it.
But what do your Thoughts have to do with being a Good Husband?
Well... Everything!!
As we have seen, your thoughts determine your actions. But your thoughts also determine your feelings.
So, if you keep thinking negative thoughts about your wife and your marriage, guess what? You will become unhappy with your wife and your marriage. And sooner or later you will start looking around for "greener pastures."
If you think negative, unhappy thoughts about your wife or your marriage you are not doing yourself, your wife or your marriage any favours. You will find yourself in a downwards spiral.
On the other hand, if you make a habit of thinking positive, happy thoughts about your wife you will feel good about her. And positive, happy thoughts about your marriage will make you feel good about your marriage.
This will create an upwards, happy spiral - for you, your wife and your marriage.
Some examples of Great Thinking
When you wake up in the morning, think how lucky you are to have such a wonderful wife and such a happy marriage.
Then turn around and say, "Good morning, love of my life!"
And continue, throughout the day, to think of all the reasons why you love your wife.
"But what about her faults?" you ask. I am glad you asked.
We all have faults. But it will not help you (or your wife) to focus on them. By focusing on them, you will only succeed in bringing them to the fore, almost like putting it in the lime light. Do you think that will make your wife happy? Surely not! And it will not make you happy, either. So, if it does not do anyone any good, then why do it?
Instead of focusing on the faults that you think your wife has, rather focus on her good points. Bring those to the fore, and shine the lime light upon them. That will most definitely make her happy. And it will cause her to love and appreciate you more... which will make you happier.
So you see, by thinking positive, happy thoughts about your wife and your marriage you will be doing yourself, your wife and your marriage a huge favour.
Appreciate your wife...
... and everything she does for you
Think of all the small (and not-so-small) things that your wife does for you.
Maybe she irons your shirts. Or cooks meals for you. Or reminds you to pay the electricity bill. You can probably add a hundred or more things that your wife does for you. Think about those things, and really appreciate them. Remember that your wife is not your slave, so she does not have to do these things for you. But the does them anyway... whether they are enjoyable or not.
Is that not enough reason to love her?
And to become as good a husband as you can possibly be?
