The motherboard of the laptop was developed by a student at Vellore Institute of technology and later fabricated at IIT Kanpur.The lap top has reached developmental stage and presently cost $35 and the indian government is in talks with global manufacturers for mass production for making it available to students by 2011at a reduced price of US 10-20!!! The government had earlier received poor responses from corporates for its mission to provide free content to users and it took it upon itself to develop the laptop.This initiative will have a multiplier effect on the Indian government's initiatives to spread computer literacy to its 1.2 billion population.
