It may have taken away some of the classic RPG feel of the original, but it would have been nice if the load times and strict game play restrictions could have been updated as well as the graphics. The game play still feels a bit dated and many gamers might be turned off by the turn based combat system that remains strictly in place. While gamers that are familiar with and enjoyed the original, this title might have a difficult time drawing a significantly larger following.
Story: 10.0 / 10.0
One of the best RPG stories of all time needs no updating. However, Xseed Games did make some changes to the original to make some aspects of the story a little more clear. By and large, the story remains the same, and it's a good thing. One of the only things that the story struggles with is the constant level grind still present from years past. However, isn't that what made the old RPGs great?
Music: 9.0 / 10.0
The only reason this category does not hit the 10.0 mark is because the voice acting is being included. Why oh why did they not update the cheesy voice acting that seems ever present in this game. If you can ignore this, you are in for a real treat. From beginning to end, the music is outstanding. It's hard not to shed a manly tear during Luna's Wind Nocturne. Of course, the music has been given a upgrade to be much cleaner than the original game, a welcome change on the portable console.
Replay Value: 8.5 / 10.0
This is a hard category to rate. Of course, it is difficult to grind through the levels immediately after finishing the game. If you have just finished playing Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, you may want to hold off for a while before picking up this game on the PSP. However, if you haven't seen the fall of Ghaleon since 1998, it might be time for you to become a Dragonmaster once again.
Overall Rating: 9.0 / 10.0
If you have been looking for a reason to go out and buy a PSP, Lunar: Silver Star Harmony might be the reason you've been looking for. Yes, the update wasn't perfect and there were some things that probably should have been fixed. There were also some puzzling graphical aspects that are now a thing of the past (we now know that Ramus didn't dye his hair before cut scenes). If you haven't played a classic RPG in a while and are sick of the new RPG model, give Lunar: Silver Star Harmony a try. With updated graphics, sound and game play, you can enjoy one of the best (if not the best) RPGs of all time without struggling to pick out shapes in a cluster of muddy pixels.
