subject: Mind Storming To Your Success [print this page]

Have you ever been passionate about a great idea or goal only to find yourself stuck because you can't figure out how to practically make it a reality? Well, it's often very easy to think of an idea, but very hard to make it happen. Ideas are cheap. Making them a reality takes hard work. Usually we encounter all kinds of problems that stand between the idea and its implementation. Sometimes those problems can seem insurmountable.

So what should you do?

Brian Tracey uses "mind storming". This is a strategy to help you flex your creative muscles so that you can come up with ways to hurdle the obstacles that stand between you and the realization of your goals.

Researchers have found that 95 percent of the children between the ages three and five were "highly creative." But when they studied teenagers, they found that only 5 percent of teens were considered to be "highly creative." That's a very dramatic reduction in creativity. These statistics indicate that our creativity levels drop as we get older.

Mind storming, is a great way to recover our creative abilities. And creativity is crucial to helping us accomplish our goals and realize our ideas. Here's the way it works.

First, write down your goal succinctly in the present tense, make it personal, and in a positive tone. These are called the "3 Ps." Once you have done that, you need to make a list of 20 ideas that will help you accomplish that goal. It will be easy for you to come up with the first few ideas that come to your mind. But the further down the list you get, the harder it will be to think of good ideas.

DON'T GIVE UP! Even though you might feel like you're frying your brain to think of a new idea, the best ideas usually appear at the bottom of the list.

This simple exercise can bring phenomenal results. Many ideas never come to life simply because we don't take the time to think creatively about how to overcome the obstacles in the path.

So get out there, stay focused, and think creatively by "mind storming" to turn your goals and ideas into real accomplishments!
