subject: My Top 10 Disney Characters [print this page]

Coming in at noComing in at no. 10 is the one, the only, Genie from "Aladdin". His antics in the film live with me right to this very day. I remember watching Aladdin as a kid and the Genie always cracked me up. Robin Williams did the voice and thanks to him he created a memorable character for me.

No. 9 see's the eccentric Roger Rabbit from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" this character was none stop entertainment in a surreal world were humans and cartoons co-existed. I found his relationship with Eddie Valiant, played by Bob Hoskins, hilarious how he was always causing him stress because of his natural outlandish behaviour.

At no.8 in my list come the only none cartoon Disney affiliated character, and he is the only character to be born in the 2000's. It is of course Jack Sparrow from the highly successful "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, a well known and impressive fact of the franchise is that the concept came from a ride from Disneyland in Florida, USA. This ruthless yet lovable character portrayed by Johnny Depp has won the world over and that's me included.

I appreciate the many Disney adaptations of age old fairy tales because I'm a big softy deep down that's why coming in a no.7 is the ever popular Cinderella. From the film of the same title "Cinderella" tells a story of a girl finding true love coming from rags to riches and is a story told to children today as it was since its earliest recorded conception which dates back to the 1st century BC in Greek history.

We all knew Bambi, from the film "Bambi", would make it in here somewhere and he makes it at no.6. We all remember those shocking opening scenes were Bambi's mother is shot down leaving him to learn and grow on his own, but the warm hearted friends he discovers help him along the way. Still watched avidly around the globe Bambi is truly a Disney classic and much loved.

"The Lion King" was an instant classic with a fantastic story line and soundtrack full of hits Simba is my choice for no.5. This fantastic film has become one of the most successful Disney films and was the most successful animated feature film until 2003 when "Finding Nemo" trumped it. The masterpiece came out when I was a child hitting me with pure amazement and entertainment.

"The Little Mermaid" had to feature in my list at no.4 because of the memorable performance by Sebastian the crab. His cool Caribbean voice lit up any scene he was present in and was a much loved character from the film.

Now the race for my top character is beginning to hot up and at taking bronze is... Baloo the bear from "The Jungle Book". The lovable rogue with a big booming bass voice sung his way into my fond memories. He is another comic relief character that worked his way into my list so I guess you can sense my bias somewhat.

Collecting the silver medal for being runner-up we have Woody from "Toy Story", with a whole host of characters getting a shining review it was hard to pick my favourite. While Woody could be seen as a safe choice I honestly believe to be the best, with Mr. Potato Head a close second.

My choices have brought down to one single character who to be perfectly honest stands head and shoulders above the rest and I believe that no one can argue with this guy's credentials to take home the gold, ladies and gentleman I give you Mickey Mouse. Mickey has become the iconic image for Disney and has maintained that position for a few years short of a century. His credits amount up to well over a thousand appearances and has entertained not just myself but the whole world with five star performances every time.
