subject: Know How To Avoid Herpes [print this page]

A type of sexually transmitted disease (STD), herpes is now considered a common form of infection among Americans. Report shows that around 45 million people are infected by it beginning from those aging from 12 onwards.

It has also been shown to be more common among the female population rather than the men because of the possible transmission are more efficient from men to women than it is for women to men. This type of infection is also related among areas with very low socio-economic standing wherein its inhabitants have limited access for health care, exposed to illicit drug use and high prevalence of STD cases.

It is important to determine the symptoms and stages that this type of infection has in order to know how one can address such condition. Actually, the initial outbreak is always the ugliest scenario because the victims are plagued by the virus for life. Here are the stages of herpes and how one can treat it:

Skin - these layers of our body marked by redness and irritation is the initial outbreak for genital herpes. Any area with such condition would be very sensitive to touch and may deem as painful and itchy.

Inflammation - our body naturally reacts with inflammation or swelling where there is infestation of viruses. But it is also dependent on which area such symptoms would manifest. Inflammation may not all the time be visible.

Blisters - Herpes is usually characterized by blisters. It is possible for such to grow within only a few numbers or can also be in several around the genital area.

Wet Ulcers - these are the blisters that have transformed after they break. They are raw, shallow and very painful. Some fluids may come out but most of the time these can also appear as a mere cut. Similar with blisters it can appear single or a community type.

Dry Crusts - This is the formation of scabs after the wet ulcers have dried up. They naturally fall off if they were left alone.

Then the healing process will begin. After the dry crusts have all fallen off a new skin will emerge which states that the herpes outbreak is finish. It may still appear red but it would not be as sensitive to touch as it did during the first few weeks of its cycle.

Herpes, as mentioned, is a transmittable disease. It would remain dormant until another outbreak is triggered. There is actually lesser risk of transmission when the symptoms are dormant this is also known as the asymptomatic phase of herpes.

This disease is considered an incurable one. It can be passed on from one person to another aside from the fact that there are prescriptive drugs for this kind of infection. It is still important that individuals protect themselves from acquiring such by using condoms during sexual activity even though there are no visible symptoms. It is especially a must to abstain from sex when there is an outbreak. Precautions should always be taken at all cost whether the cause is protection for yourself from others or otherwise.
