subject: Mini Review of An Excellent Replica IWC Big Pilot 5002 [print this page] The BP 5002 was made in 2002 as a tribute to the Vintage Big Pilot watch dated back to 1940s. there are two versions of the 5002: the 5002-1 and the 5002 transitional. Shortly after the Transitional 5002 came out it was discontinued and replaced by the current 5004. The only difference I see from the 5002-1 and the transitional is in the Crown. The 5002-1 has the Fish emblem whereas the 5002 transitional has a Probus crown.And here comes my review of a replica 5002
Weight:
This rep, as described by the dealer, weights 144g, just about 6g lighter than the gen. That is truly amazing for a rep. I don't think anyone could tell unless you weigh them on a scale.
Hands :
To my unprofessional eyes, the hands are perfectly copied. They look idendical to those on the gen.
Case:
I tried very hard but I could not find even a flaw from the rep case. It looks100% same as the gen indeed.
Caseback:
In fact the engravings on the back of the gen is slightly deeper and thicker, But strangely, I find the caseback of the rep appeals me more.
Crown detail:
The screw -down crown has the older fish engraving, 5002 transitional models have the Probus engraving. Anyhow, the crown looks great and firm when unscrewed. Beware, there is a tendency for these crowns to strip, so be nice to it I would have preferred the Probus engraving. But fit and finish on this crown is excellent in my opinion.
Lume:
Like most unmodified replica watches, the lume on this rep 5002 is just so so. If the lume on the gen is 5 scores, the lume her is just about 3 scores I need to relume it myself.
Dial:
Unless you are an expert you could not tell the difference. The dial is not second to the gen at all.
AR:
I have not been impressed by any of the gen pictures I have seen. I scored this one high and perhaps I should have given it a 6 because I think it's even better on the repstrange but true.
Conclusion:
I can say proudly that this is an excellent replica which is at least 95% close to the gen.It can fool most of people.
