PART-II ELECTRODYNAMIC SYSTEM(EDS): This is one of the ways to achieve magnetic levitatin. In this scheme,a repulsive force between the rails and the train is used to levitate the train. Magnetic field in the train is made possible with the help of electromagnets( or even using an array of permanent magnets as done in inductrack). In order to increase the strength of the magnetic field in the train by several folds, superconductor material* is being used. In the similar fashion, magnetic field in the rails is cerated by current flowing in the wires( or any conducting strip). Now at slow speed( i.e in the beginning when the train begins to move), the current induced in the coils and the resulting magnetic field is not sufficient enough to support the weight of the train. Thus this technique requires the usage of wheels or some other landing gear to support the train initially. As the train speeds up, the induced current and hence the magnetic field becomes strong enough to balance the weight of the train. Now how does the train moves forward? To ensure this,PROPULSION SYSTEM is provided on the guide way, which is used to exert a force on the train, making the train move forward. This propulsion system is nothing but a linear motor**. When current flow through these propulsion coils,it generates a continually varying magnetic field that moves forward along the train. The train thus moves forward. The frequency of the alternating current is synchroniszed to match the speed of the train. *,**--: to be discussed in part iii
