subject: Ways To Stop Talking In Your Sleep [print this page]

Sleep talking is speaking or uttering of words or some sounds during sleep without being aware that this is happening. Many of you might wonder how to stop talking in sleep. There are symptoms and reasons why they talk, and we will find out here:

Symptoms: There are symptoms why people sleep talks and here are few causes:

o Some people who have psychiatric disorder have the tendency to sleep talk.

o Some people who got fever or febrile illness can be a sleep talker too.

o Sleep talking can be combines with some disorders like sleep apnea syndrome, REM sleep behavior, and sleep walking.

Reasons: Honestly, no one knows the reasons why some people really sleep talks most especially on children as the common target of this condition. Sleep talking includes moans, sounds while sleeping and some people really talk as if talking to another person.

Sleep talking can distract others who are around you and for many reasons it has been a serious issue that some family members find it really irritating.

There is no specific treatment for this situation like therapies, medicines and other medical treatments. But there are ways that we can try to help ourselves or friends and loved ones in recovering from talking in sleep:

o Let the person get enough sleep, because being super tired or stressed out can lead to sleep talking.

o Try to organize your schedule of sleeping. Fix time of going to bed and getting up.

o Never eat heavy meal before bedtime. After eating relax for couple of minutes.

o If you know someone who sleep talks never nag them to stop talking in sleep because some do not know that they really talking while sleeping.

o Children were commonly affected by sleep talking make sure that you gently give them a soothing sleep and make sure to keep them safe during sleep.

Remember that depriving someone from having enough sleep can worsen the problem and they will continue to sleep talk (and probably not thank you for your efforts either). Just allow them to sleep if really needed.
