How to find the right movers?

Moving a home is considered as being one of the most stressful experiences we ever go through in our lives. The whole process of packing, leaving our home and moving to a new place is bad enough - add to that the fact that we have to entrust our possessions and their transport to complete strangers and it's no wonder our stress levels rise!

The following steps and tips will help you with the hardest part of the moving task Choosing who is the right mover for you?

Before you start your search

What services are you looking for?

Moving companies can offer you a wide range of services on top of their basic moving competencies. These services can include packing, providing packing materials, unpacking and storage facilities.

What are your preferred moving dates?

You should have chosen your moving company at least 4-6 weeks before your preferred moving day. Good moving companies are usually fully booked and the longer you wait you will have less choice in the matter. It's far better to choose and book your company as far in advance as possible.

Check the Company Background

How long a company has been operating?

It is very important to ask how long a company has been operating. If the company has less than two years of experience, then you may want to check the business's background more thoroughly

Checking the company's credentials

Checking a company's credentials is a must. Having good online customer reviews is the first step of checking the company level of service, but it is suggested to get some additional references so your next question should be if the mover can provide you with some other proof of good service.

The mover's readiness to provide you with references is an indication of their reliability and professionalism. The moving company should be registered with the California Public utilities Commission (CPUC) and The Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Looking at both organizations will provide additional information regarding the moving company's reputation.

Moving Costs

How the cost is being determined?

While locating a reliable and legitimate mover, you are probably working on your moving budget and looking for an affordable and fair rate.

You'll find a wide variety of costs and services out there and various types of pricing. Some companies will charge you on an hourly rate, some by estimated volume based on the rooms of your current property, some by estimating what types of furniture and goods you need to move and others by the estimated weight of your load.

Note: A carriers rates for long-distance moves are based on constructive miles, which are miles accounting for driving conditions. If the move is over 100 constructive miles, it is considered a long-distance move and must be charged on a weight and mileage basis.

Three things you need to know regarding estimates

1.A moving company may provide you with an estimate in writing only after they conduct a visual inspection of the items you need moved.

2.Verbal estimates or estimates given over the Internet are illegal and may not be enforceable.

3.A moving company must provide a Not to Exceed" price for all household moves. This is the maximum amount you can be charged unless you request additional services and those changes are then detailed in a Change Order for Moving Services. A Change Order cannot be used simply because a mover underestimated costs. Pay close attention to these documents because if a fee dispute arises, the moving company may demand that you pay the cost quoted on these documents before releasing your goods.
