Atlanta sports teams

Sports buffs will feel right at home in Atlanta. Six pro teams play in Atlanta, including the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, who play in the Georgia Dome; MLB's Atlanta Braves, who play at Turner Field; NBA's Atlanta Hawks, WNBA's Atlanta Dream and NHL's Atlanta Thrashers, who all play in Philip's Arena; and last but not least, MLS's Atlanta Silverbacks, who play at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. Atlanta is proud to be the the future home of the College Football Hall of Fame, which opens in 2012. The Black College Football Hall of Fame also is in Atlanta. Universities including Georgia Tech, which has won four national championships, is located in Atlanta and its rival, the University of Georgia, is located about an hour away in Athens. The Chick-fil-A Bowl, which is an annual battle between the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC), is played each year in the Georgia Dome. For motor sports fans, the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Road Atlanta and the Georgia Dome host races and other motor sports events year round.

Atlanta: A Shopper's Paradise!

Sometimes called a Shopper's Paradise, Buckhead is the nerve center of Atlanta's shopping offerings. From elegant boutiques and fine antiques shoppes to art galleries and outlet centers, Buckhead is a filled with plenty of upscale shopping centers. Lenox Square, which contains more than 300 stores, is often called the Town Square of Buckhead. Other Atlanta shopping neighborhoods include Decatur, Little Five Points and Virginia-Highland, which are home to plenty of Atlanta's chic boutiques. The Luckie Marietta District, which is located in the heart of Atlanta's hottest attractions, offers classy downtown shopping. Nearby is Underground, which consists of six blocks of shops, eateries and hot spots in downtown Atlanta. If you've rented a car as part of your Atlanta travel bundle that also includes airplane tickets and hotel rooms, take time to explore Atlanta's suburbs to shop at places like Discover Mills and the Mall of Georgia.

Getting around in Atlanta

The most flexible way to get around in Atlanta is to rent a car for your stay. If you book a vacation package that includes Atlanta cheap flights, hotel and rental car, you can save money on the rental and have a reliable method of transportation available to you. If you choose not to rent a car, however, there are still other options including Atlanta's mass transit system, MARTA; MARTA offers bus and rail service at a very cheap rate and runs all through and around Atlanta, stopping at most of the city's popular sites, shopping districts and neighborhoods. MARTA even has service to and from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Although they can be pricey, private taxis are perfect for those times when you need more personalized and flexible transportation. If you're interested in sight-seeing, try booking a ride on an Atlanta tour bus. The bus will take you all around the city and the tour guide will tell you about the city's past, present and future and answer any questions you might have. Tours also are nice because you can hobnob with other tourists and make some new acquaintances.
