subject: Hot Wheel Cars - Reliving Your Childhood [print this page]

Hot Wheel Cars are made from a die cast metal, manufactured by Mattel. They debuted in the marketplace in the year 1968 and were a smashing success. Mattels opening line up of cars consisted of 16 unique models, that are now known as the "Sweet Sixteen". Hot Wheel Cars of all colors were manufactured in plants in the United States and Hong Kong.

The production of Hot Wheel Cars is moved exclusively to Hong Kong in 1972. In the early years between 1968 and 1972, Hot Wheels came with one very distinctive trait on each car. The cars from this cycle had a red line on there tyre walls. These fresh models developed the Redlines as a very effective trademark, and so a new era of die cast cars was born.

Redline Hot Wheels Cars were probably a staple diet for every young male for the past 40 years. Redlines of that time were copies of popular cars of the day, and became very much part of American culture. It would be more true to say that 9 of the earliest 16 Redlines were actual copies of cars from that time, whilst the other 7 were exhibit cars.

Redlines from this time did have more attractive features other than a red line. Each car was painted in shiny metallic colors called Spectaflame paint and the wheels had chrome styled hot rod type rims. The assorted styles of Hot Wheel Cars truly did capture the imagination of young boys all over the world. The cars were strikingly packaged in blister packs decorated in a cheerfully colored cardboard back.

Were you once a collecter of these cars in your childhood years? Perhaps you are now enthused with capturing these childhood memories again by collecting these rare vintage early Hot Wheels. Much like collecting anything, there is a market for Redlines and Hot Wheels collecting in general.

The internet has now made it feasible to find even the rarest of Mattel Hot Wheel Cars a distinct possibility. Make sure you are able to distinguish the grade and shape of the Redline you are buying, ask for close up pictures if necessary. In the age of the internet, it will not be hard to find Redline Hot Wheels for sale.
