All these studies have indicated that stroke survivors living in the community are likely to fall twice as often as patients who stay in hospital rehabilitation units and geriatric centres. Only one study has looked at stroke survivors in the community (Young and Forster 1995) and most subjects in this study were elderly and therefore at an increased risk of falls even without having suffered a stroke (Bhatnagar 1995).
