subject: suicide Bombers Not Interested In Job Security, Says Los Angeles Translation Worker [print this page]

In a bizarre move to encourage Taliban fighters to pursue peace, the Afghanistan government is working to offer jobs with security to Taliban fighters who leave the battlefield. Government policy makers believe that this plan may encourage some fighters to turn in their bombs in exchange for a western style television and a peaceful family life. Apparently, a similar plan was launched in Iraq under the Bush administration and showed some signs of success. In fact, one Japanese Translation Service worker indicated that the Son of Iraq program persuaded large numbers of the Sunni sect away from the insurgency and measurably decreased violence.

At a time when relations have become unpleasant between the Karzai administration and U.S. government, the new program has provided new hope that the allies can cooperate and reach important decisions about ending the war on terror. Nevertheless, in a private interview, a Los Angeles Translation Service insider suggested there was still some doubt that the program will be successful. However, German Translation Service insiders, Taliban fighters who enter into the new jobs program will be trained to be security officers or provide other jobs for the Afghanistan state. However, according to the translation insider, Suicide bombers arent particularly in job security, a warm home and a hot meal. In Karzais inauguration address, he said, We invite all disenchanted brothers who are not directly linked to international terrorism to again embrace their homeland," he said. "We welcome those . . . who are willing to return to their homes, live peacefully and accept the constitution."

Regardless of the the success of this program, we all hope that peace will come to the region soon.
