If you spot him sitting on a counter then perhaps you can go that way and 'accidentally' bump his hand with yours. Again, say something like 'oh clumsy me'... Look at him and apologize. If you saw that the channel on TV is all about soccer then say something about it. Or make a conversation out of anything. But of course don't go over board by asking where he got his leather shoes.
Either way, be gentle when making physical contact with him. Because if you keep on doing that, you become obvious and that is quite annoying.
