subject: Where To Do A Criminal Record Lookup [print this page]

You can perform a criminal record lookup online and some places will allow you to do them at your local court house. You will usually have to pay for the ones that you do online so be prepared to have a credit card ready when you go looking for a record on a criminal. You should also be prepared to not find anything on this person. Just because they may look like a criminal or you think they are does not mean that they are.

Police stations perform a criminal record lookup if they are booking someone that they have caught doing a crime. Or even if they have not caught them doing a crime, if they are being booked then they still get a criminal record lookup. When you become a criminal it is on the records and it is for the public to view.

The reason that these records are public is to keep people safe and also for jobs to determine if it is safe to hire you. For instance some places can not hire you if they find out you have a criminal history. Depending on what the criminal history is they may be able to hire you if it is a minor thing that you did or was accused of doing.

It is very easy to do a criminal record lookup, all you really have to do it type it into a search engine on your Internet. If you do not have the Internet then you will want to go to your local court house and ask them for the specific records of the person that you are looking for the records on.

It can be hard to get a job when you have a criminal record especially if it is a felony. Some criminal charges will come off your record after five or seven years but this also depends on what state your in and what the judge decides. The five or seven year period is like a trial period and if you get into any more trouble then they will more than likely get you into more trouble because of you having a criminal background.

Usually when you are filling out a application they require you to disclose of your criminal record even if it is a misdemeanor. Sometimes when you fill out an application it will only require you to disclose of your criminal record if it is for drugs or is it is a felony.

You should always be truthful on your application because having a criminal record will not bar you from getting a job. But if you lie you will have less of a chance getting that job. Especially if they find out later on that you did lie and then they have to fire you.

When you do a criminal record lookup you should always make sure you got the right person. There are a lot of people in the world who have the same name as other people. Do not make assumptions that you have the right person until you check that their birth date, age and especially their social security number matches.
